So...Tattoo/s... Yup haha that is what I wanna talk about with everyone. At the moment I am planning my first tattoo...and if I could have them where I want them my next four. Opal describes my ultimate goal as more of 'street art' haha. My plan is to have this: Left wrist: " i am. Right wrist: " So in the end it would hopefully look something like this (sketched this stuff with a black pen to give myself and others an idea of what I want): So now that I have shown you mine, why not show me yours? If you have any, if not maybe your plans for one or more haha Speaking of more! If I wasn't studying to be a teacher and therefore restrictions are placed upon my body, four tattoos later my arm would probably look like this (all pen):

You've got a very steady hand and pretty handwriting! I'm impressed you did that yourself considering what an awkward angle that must be

Oooh, nice penmanship, Snow. Sorry that you'll have a hard time getting any more tattoos because you're going to be a teacher, but it's still an admirable profession to take up. I'm afraid I don't have any tattoos, yet, but I really do want to try one, and then see how it goes from there. A black ink Capricornus is what I want, somewhere on my upper back. The Capricornus, or sea goat, is the animal of the Capricorn. In the western zodiac, I'm a Capricorn, and in the Chinese zodiac, I'm a Metal Goat, and even before I could bother looking those things up on the Internet, I already absolutely loved goats. There was a pair of them at this farm we'd visit yearly to pick Halloween pumpkins, and I was more interested in going to see the goats than pumpkin hunting. And then there was a foster named Annabell. Annabell was a very thin and sickly baby goat, that one of my mom's co-workers at the animal shelter had asked my mom to foster. They didn't have much hope that she'd make it, but we tried. I visited Annabell as much as I could, and she'd always just sit in my lap with me. And I'd help out by holding her whenever she needed fluids or medicine. Went in to visit her every morning before school. But the sickness never get much better, and she didn't make it... So one day, I want to get the sea goat as my first tattoo. Probably something like this. And if that goes well, and I get the experience of what a tattoo actually feels like, I may slowly go and get a few more.

You've got a very steady hand and pretty handwriting! I'm impressed you did that yourself considering what an awkward angle that must be Naw thanks JC, I was working in for a very particular font for each one. Using reference pictures. The one below my inner elbow was the hardest actually (for my dream set of tattoos) It says "Love is enough" and I adore it. But yeah so much time spent penning all that on so I can walk around and get use to the idea of having permanent inkage there haha. Oooh, nice penmanship, Snow. But do not fear! I plan on getting a tattoo SOMEWHERE on my torso that just says: fuck. My silent protest to my lack of visible tattoos allowed. Bwuahahahaa

I don't have any tattoos but I have designed a few for people and had people ask to use my other designs for tattoos. I used to do dragon tattoo designs on the dividers in my notebooks. I had a professor convinced I was getting one of them on my back for a short while! Probably will not get one myself- I am a huge fan of body paint and love drawing on myself with watercolor pencils, micron pens or acrylic paint- but I like to change it with style and season rather than have it just one thing. I got to watch a tattoo artist apply one of my designs to someone though and found the process very interesting. We talked at length about tattoo art- was a very enjoyable three hours.

I am very cautious around the whole tattoo thing. If I'm honest, and please nobody (especially Snow ;- be offended, because I truly believe in freedom of creativity and that we all have personal likes and dislikes... But I really don't like word/phrase stand-alone tattoos (I've literally only ever seen maybe two I thought looked good) or random doodley tattoos. I can't help it, I just don't appreciate it. I totally understand why people get those kind of tattoos though. And I am not anti-tattoo at all, I think they can look epic. Lots of my friends got these done and I wouldn't say they all regret it, many love their tats, but you'd be shocked at how many do ~ I promise I'm not trying to be a grumpy fart saying '>:[ yeeel regret yer tattoos when yer old' though, but I would say play the waiting game first, or you'll end up like my friend Jazz, who has had three cover-ups and she's only 20 xD Spontaneous tattoos = bad. Every tattoo I've ever planned I gave at least a year... I have no tattoos and it's been ten years since my first idea, which was having a dragonfly on my ankle. I am SO glad I didn't get the following planned tattoos - realistic bleeding heart, giant wolf, fake cuts, meat is murder, the list goes on haha. The ones I'm still considering are a tribalesque kitsune/fox on my lower back, a dragonfly on my ankle and a big pattern on my shoulder/upper back. Maybe an anarchist/anti-government graffiti style tattoo somewhere if I came up with an awesome idea. Although my least favourite tattoos are generic tattoo parlour prints. Actually, I only really appreciate tattoos when they look highly decorative or look like artwork or are reeeeally clever/meaningful. I would love to have a tattoo on my shoulder, I will design it one day. It will be a decorative pattern which suits me with potentially some abstract figures like a dragon and a fairy and a mushroom weaved in.

I have one tattoo on the inside of my ankle. It's a bit distorted now from lymphedema related swelling so I won't post a picture. It's of a pentacle made out of rose stems & leaves with 2 pink roses. One on the outer circle and one in the center. Distorted or not, I'll never regret getting it. Both my husband and I got ours at the same time. We were driving back to his home after visiting the Tennessee Renaissance Festival and saw a sign for one of the well known tattoo places in Louisville. Since we both has been talking about it, we spur of the moment went and got them. This trip was really important to us because it was when he moved from Kentucky to Minnesota where I lived. No more long distance dates after that trip!

universalchild That's ok lovely, everyone is allowed their opinions, I just know that I am not the type to have an image tattoo. I prefer phases (probably a link to the fact that I am getting a History major with an English and Creative Writing minors). I might move that tattoo to the back of my leg or something easier to hide, not sure but I know what I want. slvrstarr (jarlis) Haha that sounds like a lovely tattoo. Lots of meaning to.

I understand about 'bumper sticker' tattoos completely and find them somewhat hideous and amusing, depending on the object and placement. My roommate in college did get a tattoo up her spine- a Bible verse in Hebrew- that was particularly meaningful to her and very well placed and well inked. She had the back to show it off and it looked gorgeous when finished. Still not something I would do, but I could respect her decision to have it done and, artistically, the end result was quite nice.

@duchess of the Snow it's a pity that you won't be able to get the arm tattoo's you want not. Just remember there is nothing that says you can't get them later. I know the schools will be slow to change but tattoo's are so much more common now that sooner or later they will have to relax about them.
Paradoxical Blue I love the sea goat design you linked to, that will look fantastic if you decide to go ahead with it or one similar to it.

Yeah, everyone is different in preferences <3 The only tattoo I feel sure of is getting a dragon one day. I am a dragon obsessive.

I have to agree with universalchild that some tattoos that you see just are not meaningful, my gym teacher for example, had such a standard tattoo-y logo on his upper arm, which, if you ask me, is just a waste. However well thought-of and meaningful tattoos are something different. I really like the logo you made Snow! And I love the goat-story, blue! That would make a wonderful tattoo because it represents who you are and what you feel! Tho I fear a needle more than anything else, I would like to get a tattoo at some point. According to my late grandmother, I have First Nations blood in me (for those not familiar with Canadian terminology, those are Native Americans) and I have always find the first nations very inspiring! Even more after I found out about that. So I'd like to have a dreamcatcher-like feathery thingy either on my upper arm, or on my back Or maybe something with a buffalo or wolf or eagle in it as well.. Im not sure about the design yet, cause I don't think Ill get the tattoo in the end.. Just because Im afraid of needles so badly
