The fact that many of us enjoy anime and manga was brought up briefly elsewhere, so I thought I'd make a spot for it here- what are people's top 5 or 10 or 15 anime or manga? (I'm using anime to refer to animated media and manga to printed media, just to make a distinction.)
Off the top of my head, a few favorites: - Fullmetal Alchemist- Watched the first anime and its ending movie, then read the manga, then watched Brotherhood. Enjoyed every bit of it. - Psychopass - anime, from this past year. Crime drama, with a lot of speculative fiction thrown in. Very good, slightly dark. - Blue Exorcist - not a huge fan of the anime, but am very much enjoying the manga. Quirky, easy to read, but with enough of an edge to distance it from others of its genre. - Ghost in the Shell:SAC and season 2 - Older anime, but really nice animation and a very good set of plots. It's also got a speculative fiction base. - Summer Wars - animated movie, by the guy behind the Digimon movie, I think, though it shares nothing but a little aesthetic with that franchise. It's one of my favorite non-Ghibli animated movies.
So, what do other clans enjoy?

YAY ANIME *ahem*
You named two of my favorites: FMA (my number one top favorite manga ever and the anime series are close behind) and Blue Exorcist (I liked the anime and I have the first few volumes of manga but I haven't read them yet). I've been meaning to watch Summer Wars since it came out, pretty much... bah, too much to watch. ;-;
Some others that I thought were really good, in no particular order:
Star Driver - it's basically a giant robot magical girl series with a good plot and awesome animation. (The action sequence animation is gorgeous.)
Pandora Hearts - I saw the anime first and I enjoyed it and suggest watching it first because it gives you voices and music (Yuki Kajiura! <3) but it's one of those series where the plot of the manga keeps going and so they make up a lousy ending to stop the anime because they don't have funding to continue it. BLAH. The manga is really amazing so far, though. If you like pretty boys and demon contracts and traumatic backstories, you will love this. If you don't, you may like it anyway.
Fairy Tail - I actually have been reading the manga, not watching the anime, but I love it a lot. It's shounen action genre except also good. Unless you hate the genre.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - It is the absolute perfect parody/homage anime for aforementioned shounen-action genre, plus giant robots. It's great and hilarious. And speaking of hilarious...
The Slayers - SO GOOD. Not new, but it has a perfect blend of tongue-in-cheek genre savviness and parody with real plot and character development. Also giant explosions. I like giant explosions. It's also very funny.
Rurouni Kenshin - another classic. The manga is a million times better than the anime.
Last Exile - oh man if you like post-apocalyptic dieselpunk science fantasy then this is the absolute greatest thing you will ever come across. If you have no particular interest in any of those genre adjectives I just used, watch it anyway for the great plot, characters and world building. (I do not recommend the sequel.)
Gosick - okay last one for right now. For this one, envision a Holmes/Watson type dynamic with solving mysteries and such, except Holmes is a tiny blonde Gothic-Lolita girl and Watson is a Japanese boy and it's set, theoretically, in the 1910s I think. It's better than I made it sound, I promise.
...okay one last one for real this time... Hyouka - Another mystery-solving type of series, with a lot of references to classic mystery novels (some of which I haven't read and didn't get, sob, I feel like a sham) and a beautiful example of some of KyoAni's best animation.

Inventrix, you mentioned several that I really love- Star Driver, for its sheer quirky awesomeness, Fairy Tail because it develops every single one of its bajillion characters in the manga and Last Exile, which I own and rewatch and in general fangirl over all the time and none of my friends get it or want to see it! I have a friend really into Hyouka too, so I'm thinking it might be next on my to watch list.
A few more: - Sword Art Online (ok yes I know the anime's a cheese fest. It's a pretty cheese fest) I stumbled across some of the novel translations and kinda liked where the author went with the whole virtual world crime thing and how it affects people's lives- the whole 'real world' versus 'online' and how there really isn't a difference at all; even if the consequences seem like just code the process of making the decision to commit a crime still happened and can have lasting effects.
- Princess Tutu (darn it I hate that title) it's awesome. Just go watch it. Battle dancing meets crazy Inception-style mind screw.
-Madoka Magica which is a deconstruction of the magical girl genre and is very, very weird. Nothing more shall be said.

Some that I love as well are Death note and One Piece! Oh yeah and Code Geass and Code Geass 2 One piece is on-going, and the others are limited, so I would start with those! A little summary about what they are about Death note - A high school boy finds a notebook of a deathgod (shinigami) with which he has control over who dies. He uses the book the kill people (by heartattack) who he thinks deserves it. However, his dad (and later on himself as well) are in the special police force to catch the person behind the mysterious deaths. (I don't know if that's a good description, but yeah ) One piece - A boy, Luffy, with special powers sets out to become Pirate King, and on his way he meets friends and fights enemies. This manga contains a bitmore humor than the others. It also contains some mythical background stories and a lot of action, in case you enjoy that Code Geass/Code Geass 2 - Japan has become a British colonie, and the British king and his servants are very evil and stuff. So a highschool boy, a rich fart, who is part japanese, part Britain, decided to go save the world under a different name (Zero). A lot of exciting things, moral/ethical questions, and yeah, I liked it very mcuh!

Also if you are in the United States (and for some series, elsewhere) I watch a lot of anime through Crunchyroll these days. If you're not in the US, it's less useful due to license restrictions.

Hulu also has a lot, and a nice selection of lesser-known animated movies, but is also US only. For the rest of us... animecrazy and animeseason are nice. Funimation and some of the other animation companies also host their own on-line anime, though according to the folks in the industry, free anime via internet is pretty well on its way to killing the genre in its home country. Very high demand, but not enough money going back to the original creators to support making more.
And on that note... - Gun x Sword - anime, 24 episodes I think, space western with giant mecha. Surprisingly good.

I watched a bit of Deadman Wonderland and read its manga for a while, but kinda got lost later on once the plot started getting odd. Soul Eater is a lot of fun~ enjoyed both anime and manga.
I'm watching Attack on Titan right now and it's very, very strange.

A bunch of people I know seem to be really loving Attack on Titan but it just isn't catching my interest quite enough to give it a shot.

I had to kinda tune out a lot of the random 'oh noes everyone is dead' bits and wait until something plot-relevant happened. I'm OK with strong female leads, so when the male lead vanished for a bit the show got more interesting for me. I would have been ok with him staying gone, though now I am curious to read the manga and see how closely it's following.

Angel Beats!. In my opinion, it's the best anime in 2011, but you need to watch it subbed. Perfect atmosphere, it's slice-of-life, and I'm afraid that if I say more I will ruin your watching pleasure.
