So as you might've seen if you've been following the Q&A forum, I've been toying with the idea of having an accent as a sort of official-clan-member tattoo for some of my dragons. I still haven't decided if I want to do it (it looks like it'd get pretty expensive, unless my core clan ends up being all female Faes or something xD), but I've started working on a "tattoo" design in the meantime. Long story short: what do you think of this design? I'm trying to get something fairly simple that has elements of both wind and wings.

I quite like the design - very curly and simple yet not too plain. Would it be a plain black tattoo or would you colour/shade it as well?

It's definitely going to be a solid color, but I don't know if I'll go with black or with something else. I might do a border in a contrasting color just to make sure it'll stand out well on any base color.

Hmm that's a good idea to border it with something, since there's such a wide variety of base colors. Maybe black with a white border or vice-versa? It'd be hard to match the whole spectrum, unless you made it specifically to match the colors of your element, which would probably work nicely.

Yeah, black with a white border is what I was thinking~ Or possibly if I made it a color, border it in a lighter (or darker, depending on the color I picked) version of the same hue.
What I would really like is to make it black but at, say, 80% opacity, so the dragon's base color shows through a little bit. I asked if that's possible on the tumblr and am waiting for them to have a chance to do another Q&A post. (I hope it'll be possible, but I doubt it.)

Oh yeah, an opacity option would be pretty neat. I'd also lean towards no though, since the accents are probably just applied like an item or on a top layer. But who knows? That's be pretty sweet.

I personally feel that the two swirls on the left should be removed and only the horizontal ones should remain.
The tattoo would feel balanced and not that overcrowded that way ^^
It's a really sweet design <3

Xin Xiao, like this? Hrm. It does look nice that way and I can see what you mean, but... I dunno, it almost seems a little too simple. It still has the wind/wing elements but I feel like this way it leans more towards wind, less towards wing. What about with just the bottom swirl removed? Do you still think it's too much? I could try turning that bottom swirl on the vertical into more of a slight curve instead. *ponders*

Sorry about double-posting but I think I take back my previous ambivalence. >.> I was working on ideas for the tattoo accent design on the male fae skin last night, you see, and just now modified it for all three of those options and I must admit, it looks best using Xin Xiao's suggestion.

I still like the first design the best, but on the fae you don't really have much room to work with I guess. Maybe if you tried to make it a bit smaller it would look nicer. Are you trying it on any other breeds?

Swiftla: If I go ahead with my plan, yes; I'll have it for a good number of the breeds and genders. XD I'm going to be trying it on a Guardian next. I'm not too keen on making it any smaller, though. It'll start being really hard to make out the details. There is actually not as much space difference in terms of drawing on the body of the dragons between the breeds as you might think. The dragons themselves are wildly different sizes, but the art for them is all the same size. I picked the male Fae to try first partly because it would be one of the easier ones, actually. It has a nice clean open shoulder. The trickiest will probably be the Tundra and the Spiral, I think...

True, I guess I'm just biased because I like the first design better Yeah, the tundra is kind of furry so he may pose a challenge.. I'm excited to see the others though!

Bias is good! XD If I didn't want people's opinions, I wouldn't have made a thread. I played with it a little bit more and actually I like this best right now. (the corner bit is from the file I'm actually drawing the accent in) (yes I know the designs don't quite match) I do agree that the swirliness in the original is a bit much, but I think this tones is it down enough while still having the full "wing" feeling I was going for. Thoughts, opinions, vehement disagreement?
