Deepclaw's Whimsy
A summation of mah general plans...
First Steps
1. Die waiting for 3 AM EST.
2. Register and hope the servers don't crash with initial flood of equally excited players.
3. Twist self inside out deciding on a Starter Female's coloration. *
4. Decide, and then discover the Starter Male has horrible coloration and resolve, somehow, that I'm stuck with him forever!
5. Continue to Lair and stare in awe at what I contributed $40 for.
Asterisks
*Given that my Starter Female has good coloration (particularly the belly color in relation to the rest because you can't control that apparently), I'll use my first Imperial scroll on her. I'm aiming for bright red body, and bright aqua wings. I was going to go with black and white with red or gold wings, but introducing color to a black and white bloodline is fatal to the eyes, imo. Possible, but I'd rather start with color.
Given that I can't get the coloration right for the Starter, I'll go with a Female Guardian to act as my Avatar and the leader of the Clan, story-wise. I want this dragon anyway, so I'll keep a look out for dragons that fit what I want color-wise in the Clan Leader, regardless.
Given that the Random Male isn't an eyesore and just so happens to be totally perfect, I'll Impify him and wait to breed he and the female Imp until everyone else's Imp hatchlings are gone from the market! The wait will be grueling but I hope to gain some extra gems for it.
General Beginning Strategy
Once in game and ready to go, I'll go Gathering and Scavenging first, use up all my turns. I hope to find an egg so I can get a third party member ASAP but that might not happen. Next, I'll test out the games to see if I'm any good at them. I'm usually NOT, but hey. Doesn't hurt to try for some treasure! And finally after that, I'll check out the forums and see the egg clutches that will no doubt already be up for sale, and eggs other people find via Scavenging - IF anyone is willing to sell, considering everyone will be looking for a Third.
Afterwards, I'll check out the Coliseum whether I have a third or not, just to level a couple times, see what it's like, and see what the monsters drop. If I find anything good, it'll either be kept or put up for sale.
Gems
I may or may not be buying gems in the long run, but to give me a headstart on the game I may buy $10 worth to get my hands on a Boon of Fertility and a Scroll of Maturity. The rest will be used to purchase hatchlings, maybe buy a gene or two, and to sell for Treasure. I am not interested in Apparel at this time.
KS Items
I've got a few I want to sell, namely stuff from the Cloudy Pack, the Fiendish Pack, and the Clockwork Pack. I may sell the Clockwork Pack and the Fiendish whole for a larger sum of gems because I THINK if you redeem the code, you get the Vistas automatically. I don't care for those, and I'm not even sure what they are. Does anyone know? I'm assuming they're some kind of skin, either to use for posting or to change the forums' appearance or some such. I want the Cloudy and Gold Packs, though, the Cloudy for the Vista and the Gold for the Golden Idol Pet. Other things from those packs, and the other packs may be sold later in the summer when they become much rarer, and therefore more valuable.
Naming
First up, every First Gen dragon in my Lair will have a letter title added at the end or beginning of the name to make them obvious on sight when scrolling through my Lair. I was thinking FB, for "First Blood," appropriately referring to the first of a bloodline, but I may just go with FG for First Gen because it doesn't remind me of Rambo. So "FB Deepclaw," "FB Featherfall," "FB Dunce Cap," and so on. I hate ruining the name with a notation but hey. Notation will also be added to dragons' descriptions, for lineages anyway.
Water Element Dragons may have a standardized naming system for my Clan. On Dragcave, I name all water Dragons with a "B'" at the beginning of their fantasyish names. However, I may just go the Transformer/MLP route, and stick with descriptive names. I find these names more memorable and relatable, and more RP friendly too. Lineages may have 'last names' or a common name to keep them all in the family.
Breeding
I've got a couple ideas for bloodlines.
Imperials - I'll have two Imperials. My goal is to breed two First Gen Imps to create a very colorful, but eye pleasing bloodline. I'm aiming for deep red in the body and bright blue wings for the Second Generation of their line. I would prefer gold horns and belly, but I don't think that's possible if the tummy color is uncontrollable. I may add Shimmer to give the Wings even more appeal, or maybe the Eye Spot gene, and may consider a gene for the body, depending on how it looks. I also have tentative plans to include an Accent with the sale of future hatchlings that match the parents', though what the accent would be is yet to be decided. It may be a simple clan marking, wing pattern, gradient, or something else. This would bump up the pricing quite a bit, but I think it would be a nice touch once the game's population and market establishes itself. At the start, though, they'll simply be hatchlings that hopefully mostly match the parents' coloration. Finding the perfect parents, though, may be time consuming. -_- Luckily, they can be any dragon of the appropriate gender and can simply be scrolled!
Beyond Second Gen, I could take the bloodline into other colors, but we'll see what's available later on. I'd sure love to see other people's Imp lineages, and go from just reds to blues and purples.
That's it for solid plans. I was vaguely thinking of a themed Pearlcatcher Bloodline where I'll aim for a 7th or 9th Stairstep generation. The goals there would be a gorgeous lineage and a gorgeous hatchling that someone else can continue the lineage with or just do whatever. But I don't know if that's even possible. The requirement there is that the lineage can be tracked all the way back, not only to the parents. We'll see!
Skins/Character Creation
Beast Wars - Yes, I'm a Transformers fan, and my fave series of all time is Beast Wars. I want a Depth Charge Guardian dragon, and a Rampage/Protoform X Guardian dragon. The Depth Charge dragon can be bred or First Gen, and must be mainly aqua, with silver, blue, and/or purple accent/secondary colors. I'll know him on sight, and Scroll him into a Guardian if necessary. Rampage will need to be First Blood and crimson with deep violet/gold secondary/tertiary colors. I'll also know him on sight. I don't like the Male Guardian's pose for his character, but its the best breed for the reference! Either of these could be female, I suppose, but I'd have to think long and hard about breeding them if they're opposites. They were enemies on the show, but might make a cool bloodline. When I get them, I'll level them both to max to fit their Beast Wars personas...
Alternately, Rampage will be a Ridgeback, and while I would want their natural colors to look close to write, I might just Skin them.
Also, I want a Mass Effect Wrex skin for a Male Snapper. >_> Just saying. I thought of Krogans when I saw the breed.
I may want a couple OCs draconified, but we'll see.
Goals
- Beautiful Imperial bloodline.
- Start a neat Lineage Project. What, I don't know yet.
- Someone mentioned Dragon God Dolls? I WANT. ALL OF THEM.
- Keep on top of the market. Simply be familiar with prices and conversion rates, basically.
- Uhhhhhhh.... I'm SURE there were a couple other things, but I can't remember and I'm too sleepy to stay up thinking about it.
The above is all prior to release. I'm curious how my plans, and everyone's, will change once we've all played for a couple days post-release.
