For the past two nights I have been taking one of my fathers painkillers before bed as they help make you sleep while giving excellent pain relief. Both nights I went to bed around one, spent 3-4 hours in and out of conciousness constantly and by 4-5 am I give up and move out into the lounge room on my Fiancé's laptop and browse the web in a failed attempt to make myself tired. It is starting to get annoying but I think I now understand why my dad gets bad insomnia...and how The Opal Lady must feel since she also suffers from it. It kinda sucks. I want to be able to sleep for a good solid eight hours again.

I'm sorry to hear you're having such trouble, Snow Um, depending on the drug it is possible that you've taken a dose that is personally too much for you and it is creating a paradoxical effect. A narcotic agonist-antagonist reverses itself at a certain dose per body weight per individual sensitivity. Also insomnia is a common side-effect of many medications - even ones specifically for insomnia. If you're still sleepless, then you might try diphenhydramine (benadryl or whatever the brand name is in Australia).

I agree with eliskan, from personal experience.
Drink tea instead, warm delicious tea. It helps.
