I guess some strategy is involved here xD
I'm a very giving person, I tend to hoard things I think would make for good giveaways/gifts, I prefer to either give things away, or sell them for a cheap price. (unless I'm strapped for cash.) I would like to do giveaways that everyone can enjoy. I like to have a give away mascot and kind of roleplay the give away post. Sometimes doing a theme.
What I want to know is, what sort of giveaways do you prefer? Answer the poll or post in the thread. Prizes will most likely be items, food, dragons/hatchlings/eggs. Maybe a few familiars, it dpends on the rarity of the familiar. (I don't like to give away common items that everyone can get, uness a person hoards them or it's a booby prize.)
Not quite sure how I would do lottery, but I'm sure I could figure something else (unless there is a site lottery, then I might not bother.)

One thing about raffles, on a couple of other pet sites I'm on, raffles are performed where people pay something for tickets. So then, whoever has the most in-game money (or items the raffle-holder wants), get the most tickets and highest chances of winning. And then others all try to start throwing money at the raffle holder to try and match the richer players who entered.
You seem better than that. XD Please tell me that you are, and if you hold raffles, it'll be one-ticket per person, or there'll be a maximum amount of tickets you can have, or the like. Just something to restrain the odds.

I'm going to say "free raffle" for the same reasons Little Blue listed. It's just more fair, especially if you're trying to be charitable and give something away. Unless you ARE strapped for cash, then selling tickets will definitely be the best choice! Wouldn't personally suggest caption contests or beauty contests, because both "humor" and "beauty" are subjective and when you use opinions for prizes people can get nasty or feelings can get hurt. Someone did start a theme contest in beta and I know it was greeted enthusiastically, but that was a small group. If 800+ people actually paid money to the kickstarter, then you know at least two or three times that number will join when FR actually opens. It could still be fun, but if you do that I'd have it be a poll to see who wins so that no one can complain about favoritism or unfairness. Other than that, I think I'd love to try giving things away too. It's always wonderful to play a game and make someone's day. You could do familiar prizes if it was common enough. It seemed to me that in the beta some players had more "luck" getting a certain type of familiar, so if you're like me and end up with 8 extra somethings (damn you ugly sunset lashers, get out of my hoard) then throwing them to the crowd would be more fun for everyone (including you) than putting a glut of them in the market.

*imagines throwing familiars into a crowd of people and Skycats attaching themselves to people's faces with their claws*
Oh, I do limit the number of tickets allowed per person, usually. And even then they are cheap (like say $1 or something) or even a special deal type thing. I would also have a 1 ticket per person rule when it comes to free raffles.
I did do a raffle on one site where people gave me their crappy pets for me to put into my reserve, 1 pet = 1 ticket. there was also a one freebie ticket. I was trying to help clear bad pets out of the pound, and also there was a slew of same coloured pets, which was annoying. I probably wouldn't do that on FR though.
I also try to do multiple prizes, with one prize per person.

The "a ticket in exchange for a crappy/unwanted pet" thing sounds like something that would be very popular on a certain petsite I used to go to. The last time I was there, there was a ton of 'muddy colored' and 'same-combinations-of-colors/patterns' pets that everyone was tired of seeing bred over and over again.

I don't know about that, Nohricanis. Remember that Flight Rising has it's Dominance system. If someone has an unwanted dragon, they may be better off Exalting it, where they will get a small reward and help their Flight towards the next week's Dominance and that week-long reward.
Edit: Noticed you mentioned it would be popular on another site. Missed that, sorry. But yes, I think unwanted dragons are better off being Exalted rather than used for tickets. Though if a raffler gets a lot of dragons, that in itself could be a good Dominance strategy. xD

Forgive cruddy sketch, but that mental image just made my morning. Then again, what do we expect from a Giveaway run by a Harpy if not mayhem?
