This is a take-off from the Dragon Lit thread, but not directly related to FR so probably not appropriate for the forum's lit section.
Do you write/imagine/dream stories about dragons? Post the summary of your dragon creations here! 500 words or less.
I'm just curious what we all have to bring to the table lit-wise. Who knows, maybe in one or five or ten years it'll be our names and titles in the Dragon Lit thread!
My world is called Kaljaia (where the username comes from)
and contains three different kinds of dragons. The first kind is the Fyari:
six-limbed (winged), telepathic, long-lived and technologically advanced to the
point of coal-powered foundries, airships and, in the past and possibly in the
future, starships. They are not native to Kaljaia but are refugees from the
destruction of their own world. They form legally-binding contracts with the
humans of the world so that both races may benefit and avoid the kind of
destruction the dragons are familiar with. They are responsible for introducing
most of the higher tech to an otherwise late middle-ages world and use dragon-drawn
airships as a means of conveying cargo and people.
The second kind is native to Kaljaia, four-limbed and
arrogantly tribalistic, much smaller and less technologically advanced than
their Fyari cousins. Most hold themselves aloof from humans and Fyari, though
their artisan skills with stone, metal and wood are rumored to surpass the
Fyari. Those that intermingle with humans do so as equals. Few form contracts
though some families of humans and dragons cohabitate for mutual benefit; a
human family and a mated pair of dragons will raise their offspring together.
The third kind inhabit a parallel reality and are insect-like
in appearance. They can harness electrical charge and often cross into Kaljaia
during lightning storms. One of Kaljaia’s human clans can draw on their power
by ‘devouring’ the dragon’s life force, resulting in the death of the dragon.
The dragons are intelligent but defenseless against being used as the source
for Kaljaia’s magic and resent it greatly. Some mages are aware of this and
seek to work for mutual benefit, but they are few and far between and very
often driven to insanity.
That’s a brief introduction to my headworld
dragonkind! A friend and I created the world fourteen years ago and it’s gone
through a lot of evolution since. I’m still writing and have several long,
ongoing epics based in it. When I describe my stories as ‘swords, dragons and
space-ships,’ I get a lot of funny looks!
So what dragons have you created?
